Quadratic Equations Practice

For all problems give exact answers when possible

In 1-6, solve each quadratic using at least two different methods: graphing, factoring, the Quadratic
Formula by hand , and/or with the DQUAD program. Show your work.

1. x2 + 9x + 20 = 0
2. x2 − 5x + 6 = 0
3. 2x2 − 72 = 0
4. x2 + 3x +1 = 0
5. 7x2 = 3x +11
6. x2 = 2x +15

7. Graph the following quadratic equation:
x2 − 2x − 63 = 0

a) Factor the quadratic
b) Give the solutions to the equation
c) Use the Quadratic Formula to check your answer to b

8. The height, h, in feet of an object above the ground is given by: h(t) = −16t2 + 64t + 192
where t is time in seconds.
a) at what time does the object hit the ground?
b) how high is the object when it was thrown?
c) Determine h(2)
d) Determine t if h(t) = 50ft

9. Determine a quadratic equation with solutions 8 and -10.
