Problema Solution

Find two consecutive even integers such that the smaller added to three

times the larger gives a sum of 54

Answer provided by our tutors

Тhe 2 consecutive even integers can be written as:

2x, 2x + 2, where x is integer.

In this case the larger is 2x + 2, the smaller is 2x since:

2x < 2x + 2

The smaller number added to 3 times the larger equals 54:

2x + 3(2x + 2) = 54

........

x = 6

2x = 2*6 = 12

2x + 2 = 2*6 + 2 = 14

The two consecutive event integers are 12 and 14.
